Welcome to Independents Coffee Cooperative!

INDEPENDENTS COFFEE COOPERATIVE started informally in 2003 when four independent, fair-trade coffeeshops in Philadelphia began sharing information & resources. Recognizing a common "triple bottom line philosophy," We realized we could have a greater impact on "people, profit and the planet" if we did it together.

We already had a relationship with Equal Exchange, a worker-owned company and the pioneers of fair-trade and organic coffee roasting. Excited by our energy, Equal Exchange partnered with us and contributed a lot of support and encouragement. They connected us to the small farmer-owned Cooperativa San Fernando located high in the Andes mountains of Peru. Through these partnerships, we have introduced our exclusive Independents Peruvian Select coffee, which is available only through Independents member cafes.

Today the co-op comprises nine member businesses, with a total of 13 locations around Philadelphia! When you patronize an Independents member shop, you join us as an agent of global change, supporting your local sustainable business, and helping small farmers around the world make a positive impact on the environment.
